MOUNT VERNON — Mildred M. (Brown) Rhoads, 90, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Galena and Centerburg, died peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, Aug. 22, 2008. She was born June 26, 1918, in Appleton, Ohio.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Laurence W. Rhoads; and five daughters, Sherry Davis, Lois Badger, Rita (Karrick) McKinney, Joan Rhoads and Rhonda (Rodney) Arter; 14 grandchildren, (Kim) Davis, Gretchen (Doug) Hawk, Eric (Melanie Yost) Davis, Sonya Sheldon, Spencer (Debbie) Sheldon, Skip (Laura) Sant, Scott (Tonya) Sant, Steve (Teresa) Sant, Jamie (Amy) McClain, Misty (Scott) Jenkins, Jason Hendrickson, Brandi (Dustin) Whitesel, Will (Wengy) Arter and Arianne (John) Schwanke. She is also survived by 40 great-grandchildren; and sister, Marilyn (Don) Lewis and family; as well as brother and sisters-in-law, and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by parents, Earl and Edna Brown; and grandson, Brent Davis.
Mildred was a retired bookkeeper, and a longtime member of Lock Federated Church, Lock Women’s Circle and the Smooth Sailing Euchre Club. She was well known in the Lock and Centerburg communities for her baking and gardening endeavors, most notably for her noodles at the Lock Ice Cream Socials.
A private family graveside service will be held. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Lock Federated Church in Lock on Saturday, Aug. 30, at 10:30 a.m.
