MOUNT VERNON — James Edward Smith, 78, of Yauger Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
He was born Sept. 28, 1929, in Ashland to the late Clyde and Evelyn (Costello) Smith. He was a graduate of Loudonville High School and attended Ashland University. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the Acacia Lodge 47 F&AM of Avondale, Ariz.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Laura (Haberkorn) Smith; a son, Addison L. Smith of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Smith; and a daughter, Karen Shaw.
The family will observe a memorial service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of James Edward Smith.
