CENTERBURG — Mary Jane Shoemaker, 72, of Centerburg died Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Grady Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born Nov. 2, 1935, in Thornville to the late Oscar B. and Gladys D. (Green) Jones. A graduate of Jacksontown High School in 1954, she had been a Centerburg resident since 1962. A clerk with Merrill Publishing Co. for five years, she worked 22 years as an installer and then as an inspector with Grumman Flexible in Delaware until its closing. Mary was an avid golfer, following the LPGA tour and Joan Connors. She also was a great fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes; football and basketball teams. She was a caregiver to all, especially to her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 45 years, Lawrence E. Shoemaker, whom she married Oct. 14, 1962; daughter, Sheila (Greg) Houck of Utica; grandchildren, Nicholas and Heather Houck; brother, Oscar (Jane) Jones of East Liberty; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Jean Jones.
Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, in Sunbury where service will follow Friday at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Alexander McDougall officiating. Interment will follow in Eastview Cemetery at Centerburg.
