Ottis McDowell

BLADNESBURG — Ottis McDowell, 80, of Bladensburg died on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2008, at Riverside Methodist Hospital.

He was born July 10, 1928, in Blevins, Ky., to the late Ben and Missouri (White) McDowell. Ottis was a U.S Marine veteran. He retired from milk hauling after 40 years, and recently worked for the food service department of Kenyon College. Through his years of employment he earned the nickname “Pops.”

He is survived by two sons, Dana McDowell of Bladensburg and Ruskie (Kim) McDowell of Mount Vernon; three daughters, Linda (Pat) Hagans of Bladensburg, Juskie DeVore (Marshall Walrath) of Gambier and Truskie (Ryan) Rager of Walhonding; grandchildren, Kevin P. (Jennifer) McDowell, Eric B. McDowell, Travis Hagans, Stacy D. Hagans, Tracy D. (Jim) Hanna, Franny L. (Paul) Shriver, Roger C. DeVore, Ernie K. Walrath, Mike E. (Erica) Frost, Cody and Dalton Rager, Danelle O. Burson, Dandalynn B. Burson, Dustin S. and Ryan Tyler McDowell, Matthew Low and Scott Cosner; 18 great-grandchildren; and two brothers-in-law, Billy (Peg) Fulk of Lancaster and Buddy B. (Vicky) Fulk of Hebron.

Ottis was preceded in death by his wife, Torlene, in 2006; five brothers; one sister; and son-in-law, Terry DeVore.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bladensburg Church of Christ, where funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Mr. Ben McKinstry officiating. Burial with military honors conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Bladensburg Cemetery. The Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home of Bladensburg is handling the funeral services for the McDowell family.
