Edwin L. Parker

HOWARD — Edwin L. Parker, 87, of Greencrest Court, Howard, passed away Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18, 2008, in the Palliative Care Unit at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by his caring family.

Edwin was born Sept. 3, 1921, in Gambier, a son of the late Fred E. and Anna (Harden) Parker. Before retirement in 1979, Edwin was a print pressman for Continental Can in Mount Vernon with 33 years of faithful service. He was a member of the Union Grove Church of Christ near Gambier and also attended the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) in Mount Vernon. Edwin was an Army veteran of World War II serving in the Pacific Theater and was also a 50-year member of the American Legion.

Edwin is survived by his loving wife, Lucille (Biggs) Parker; son, Lonnie D. (Frances) Parker of King, N.C.; grandchildren, Shawn (Princess) Parker, Thomas, Eden and Lauren Uscilowski and Angela (Nathan) Southern; a great-grandson, Kaleb Luke Southern; a son-in-law, Vitold Uscilowski of Howard; and a sister-in-law, Frances Parker of Gambier.

In addition to his parents, Edwin was preceded in death by a daughter, Rebecca Parker Uscilowski; a sister, Virginia Parker; and brothers, William, Fred and Charles Parker.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, Oct. 22, at 11 a.m. in Union Grove Cemetery near Gambier with Pastor Jamie Gump officiating. Inurnment will follow in the cemetery. The Knox County Joint Veterans Council will provide military graveside services.
