George E. McGugin

MANSFIELD — George E. McGugin, 65, of Brookwood Way South, Mansfield, passed away Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at MedCentral Health System in Mansfield.

He was born April 23, 1943, in Mount Vernon to the late Lester and Agnes McGugin. George served in the U.S. Navy from 1960 to 1964 and retired as a police officer from the city of Mansfield. He was a member of the Diamond Hill Cathedral, the Veterans of Foreign Wars McVey Post 9943, Robert Spreng Post 26 AMVETS and the Masonic Lodge, all of Mansfield. George took great pride in his country and served on the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Detail.

He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Eileen (Faye) McGugin; three daughters, Christine Watson, Michelle (Rick) Hunter and Ashley McGugin, all of Mansfield; three stepdaughters, Serenity (Jerry) Fliger, Cherish (Steve) Hicks and Angel Davis, all of Mansfield; and 13 grandchildren.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lester McGugin and Kenny McGugin; and a sister, Joann McGugin.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Thursday at 11 a.m. Burial with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will be held in Oak Grove Cemetery in Gambier.
