Helen Wern Fowler

MOUNT VERNON — Helen Wern Fowler, 88, of Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, formerly of Toledo, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2008, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born July 24, 1920, in Toledo, a daughter of the late Charles and Mary (Leyland) Wern, and was a Toledo resident more than 50 years. Helen was a 1938 graduate of DeVilbiss High School and was employed 20 years with Champion Spark Plug Co. She lived in Tempe, Ariz., for 23 years where she owned and operated a printing business. She returned to her Ohio roots in 1995, moving into an apartment in the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon. She was a 50-year member of Toledo Chapter 341, Order of Eastern Star, a member of Knox County Republican Women’s Club and a member of Faith Lutheran Church.

Several nieces and nephews survive Helen.

In addition to her parents, three brothers, Edward, Richard, Robert; and three sisters, Martha Wern, Margaret Peck, and Catherine Ford preceded her in death.

The family will have a memorial service for Helen on Thursday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. in the chapel at the Ohio Eastern Star Home, 1451 Gambier Road, Mount Vernon, The Rev. Mark Wildermuth officiating. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the Mausoleum at Toledo Memorial Park.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Faith Lutheran Church, 170 Mansfield Ave., Mount Vernon, OH 43050; or to the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
