MOUNT VERNON — Harold “Porky” Porter, 81, of Mount Vernon passed away Jan. 2, 2009, at the Country Court Nursing Center.
He was born June 25, 1927, in Ankeytown to the late Thomas and Vina (Earnest) Porter. Harold was a member of the Amity United Methodist Church, AMVETS Post 95, Colonial City Moose Lodge, VFW Post 4027 and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his son, Daniel Porter of Howard; a daughter and son-in-law, Connie (Charles) Zollars of Mount Vernon; a sister, Florence Gordon of Mount Vernon; and two grandchildren, Christopher and Colin Zollars.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Porter; his son, Steven R. Porter; and five brothers.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Brother Philip McMurrin officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to the services at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
