John D. Wilson

MANSFIELD — John D. Wilson, 74, of Mansfield died early Friday morning, Jan. 2, 2009, at MedCentral Mansfield Hospital.

Born May 25, 1934, in Mansfield, he was the son of Paul and Myrtle (Finley) Wilson. He had formerly lived in Mount Vernon for 22 years and Florida for 16 years before returning to Mansfield. He retired in 1992 from United Telephone as a construction supervisor. John was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving from 1952-56. He was a member of the American Legion of Englewood, Fla., and AMVETS Post 26 in Mansfield. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid sports fan, especially fond of the OSU Buckeyes.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Marcia Hines Wilson; five children, Jeffrey (Denise) Wilson of Ontario, David Wilson of Mansfield, Brenda Wilson of Galloway, Linda (Ray) Morrison of Fredericktown and Marcie (Chris) Smith of Indianapolis; six grandchildren, Shauna (Seth) Hooks, Kristy (Mike) Frost, Andrea Wilson, Brad (Amber) Wilson, Ryan McGough and Troy McGough; seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Edward S. (Nancy) Wilson of Galion; a sister, Jo Schmidt of Mansfield; several nieces and nephews; and many good friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Peggy Hauck.

Graveside services will be held Friday, Jan. 9, at 11 a.m. in Mansfield Memorial Park.
