Margaret ‘Ruth’ Patrick

DELAWARE — Margaret “Ruth” Boyd Patrick, 87, of Delaware and formerly Sparta, died Sunday morning, Jan. 4, 2009, at Grady Memorial Hospital Hospice Room.

She was born Nov. 27, 1921, in Knox County to the late Paul and Birdie (Watson) Boyd. Ruth attended The Ohio State University and Ashland College and was a retired teacher, teaching at Marengo and Sparta, and librarian for Highland High School. She and her husband have lived in Delaware since the early 1990s coming from a farm outside of Sparta. She enjoyed wintering and spending time with her many friends at the Chulavista Park in Ruskin, Fla., and spending summers with friends at Willow Brook. She was a member of Bellpoint United Methodist Church at Bellpoint.

Ruth was a competitive euchre, “horse and pepper” and bridge player and after retirement, along with her beloved Jerry, she enjoyed playing golf and traveling, but most especially traveling to Shelburne Falls, Mass., with her family to see her granddaughter and great-grandson.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harold “Jerry” Patrick and they were married Dec. 29, 1942; daughters, Barbara (LeRoy) Bandy of Orono, Maine, and Patricia (Michael) Shea of Marco Island, Fla.; granddaughter, Beth (Rick Page) Bandy; great-grandson born on her 80th birthday, Wyatt Bandy-Page; The Shea children, Christopher, Kimberly and Melissa; sister, Kathryn Patrick of Mount Vernon; sister-in-law, Juanita Boyd of Mount Vernon; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother, Elmer Boyd; and sister, Virginia Thurston.

Services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at Ohio 61, Sunbury, with Pastor Paul McCullough officiating and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in the Bloomfield Cemetery.
