UTICA — A funeral service for Gary E. VanNess Sr., 71, of Utica, will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 10 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home with Pastor Victor Slutz officiating. Burial will follow in South Lawn Cemetery.
Gary died Jan. 6, 2009, at Arlington Care Center, Newark. He was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Athens, Ohio, to the late Samuel F. and Susan V. (Sprague) VanNess. Gary retired from Columbus Colony Nursing Facility. He loved being with his family and golfing, fishing, camping and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sharon Sue (Shough) VanNess; sons and daughter-in-law, Gary and Kim VanNess Jr., and Chad VanNess, all of Utica; daughters and sons-in-law, Shari and Bert Browning of Hanover, Jodi and Ed Gee of Nashport; grandchildren, Zachary and Amanda VanNess, Kristina Gee; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Ann VanNess of Washington Court House, Don and Debbie VanNess of Utica; sister, Karen VanNess of Newark; and special aunt, Zelma Fasone of Columbus.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call Friday, Jan. 9, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica.
