SARASOTA, Fla. — Lowell L. “Mac” McCoy, longtime Mansfield resident, passed away at his Sarasota, Fla., home on Dec. 4, 2008. He was 89.
Brought up in Mount Vernon, Ohio, he was the son of W.D. and Grace (Rogers) McCoy. He and his wife, Frances Meredith (Shaw) McCoy of North Canton, Ohio, met as students at Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. They were married in 1944.
Lowell served as second lieutenant aboard the USS Massachusetts in World War II. After his discharge from the U.S.N., the newlyweds purchased their first home in Mansfield where Mac worked as an IRS agent and he and Fran reared their four children and were active members of the community, including St. John’s United Church of Christ. They began spending winters in Florida in the early 1970s and became permanent residents in the mid-1980s.
Mac is survived by his wife; a son, Jim of Orlando; three daughters, Meredith of Missouri, Jo of Pennsylvania and Nancy of Ohio, and their families; as well as one brother, Dr. William H. McCoy of Columbus, Ohio; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held in the Chapel at Sunnyside Village Retirement Community in Sarasota on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 3 p.m. Condolences to the family may be sent to Mrs. Fran McCoy, 5136 Manz Place, Sarasota, FL 34232.
