William L. Petty

LOUDONVILLE — William L. Petty, 58, Loudonville died Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at his home after a brief illness.

Mr. Petty was born Sept. 4, 1950, in Columbus, the son of the late Warren G. and Carole Lou (Vogel) Petty. Bill was a 1968 graduate of Danville High School, where he was a stand-out football and baseball player. He later played semi-pro football for the Mohican Raiders and baseball for many area teams. He loved hunting, Ohio State football, and all sports. He was a union laborer with Laborers Local 1216 since 1976, working construction for Kokosing Construction, Underground Utilities, and later Stillion Brothers, retiring in 2003. He attended Perrysville United Methodist Church and was a member of the Loudonville Sons of the American Legion.

Bill is survived by his companion of 11 years, Betti Weimer of Loudonville; two sons, William H. “Billy” (Irena Williams) Petty Jr. of Columbus, and Joseph L. “Joey” Petty of Ashland; his daughter, Kristin Rae Petty of Ashland; a granddaughter, Aubrey Anna Pauline Petty of Ashland; and his half sister, Cheryl Buffa of Pleasantville.

He was preceded in death by his parents and the grandfather who raised him, William Petty.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, Jan. 10, at 2 p.m. in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the Rev. Mellissa Hartson officiating. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
