MOUNT VERNON — Hallie M. Riggs, 79, of Mount Vernon died unexpectedly Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
Hallie was born Aug. 5, 1929, in Mount Vernon to Curt and Helen (Agnew) Robinson. She was a 1947 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. Hallie married her husband, Charles M. Riggs, in Dec. 19, 1947, and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. She was employed by the Mount Vernon City Schools at the Pleasant Street Elementary School. Hallie felt her greatest gift in life was sharing in the success and accomplishments of her children and grandchildren. Hallie was a member of the First Baptist Church in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are her daughters, Kathy Riggs of Westerville and Lori (Dave) Ramsey of Apple Valley; her sons, Marty (Paula) Riggs of New Bern, N.C., and Marion, Ohio, and Greg (Kerry) Riggs of Mattapoisett, Mass.; her grandchildren, Trevor Ables, Wes Riggs, Hilary (Nate) Russell, Ben Riggs, Hallie Riggs and Nate Ramsey; her great-grandchildren, Emmy and Roman Russell; her sisters, Alice Whirl of Galion and Jeanne Doherty of Mount Vernon; and many extended family and friends.
Besides her parents, Hallie was preceded in death by her husband, Charles M. Riggs, in 1991; her sister, Carole Wells; and an infant brother, Jack Robinson.
Friends may call Monday, Jan. 19, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Robert Hendrix officiating. Burial will follow at Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon.
