NEW ALBANY — A funeral service for Shirley L. Rowe, 87, of New Albany will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Miller Memorial United Methodist Church, 5241 Miller Church Road NW, with Pastor Calvin Alexander officiating. Burial will follow in Maplewood Cemetery, New Albany.
Shirley died Jan. 17, 2009, at Northview Senior Living Center, Johnstown. She was born Feb. 11, 1921, in London, Ohio, to the late Joseph and Loraine (Smouse) Giehl. She was a member of Miller Memorial United Methodist Church, Champion and Good Sam Camping Clubs.
Mom’s joys in life were her faith, family, farming, cooking, camping, bowling and playing euchre.
She is survived by her children, Larry (Mary) Rowe of Galena, Garry (Pam) Rowe of Worthington, Richard (Debra) Rowe of Pataskala, Robert (fiancee, Daniela Vaughn) Rowe of Utica, Cinda (John) Whitmer of New Albany; seven grandchildren, David Rowe, Tricia (Dan) Shirk, Debbie (Chris) Wilkin, Christy (Dan) Kennedy, Marcia (Justin) Sheasby, Michael (Natalie) Rowe, Evan Rowe; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Esther Eades (friend Luster Windle); and sister-in-law, Naomi Giehl.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Oliver E. Rowe, who died May 29, 2004; her parents, Joseph and Loraine Giehl; and brother, Carl Giehl.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Miller Memorial United Methodist Church, 5241 Miller Church Road NW, Johnstown, OH 43031.
Friends may call Tuesday, Jan. 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Miller Memorial United Methodist Church, 5241 Miller Church Road NW, Johnstown, (halfway between New Albany and Johnstown on U.S. 62).
The Law-Baker Funeral Home, 34 N. Main St., Utica, is assisting the family with arrangements.
