MOUNT VERNON — Oma Slone, 90, of Hilltop Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born July 8, 1918, in Grundy, Va., to the late Wallace and Ida Belle (Hurley) Coleman. Oma was affiliated with the First Church of God on Pine Street and enjoyed spending quality time at home reading a good book or watching her favorite television show.
She is survived by her children, Sandra (Larry) Tackett of Goose Creek, S.C., Jerry (Judith) Slone of Mount Vernon and Barbara Slone of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters, Lloyd Coleman of Hurley, Va., Wallace (Phyllis) Coleman of Hurley, Va., Theodore Coleman of Fenton, Mich., and Virginia Justice of Fenton, Mich.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Landen Slone (1999); a daughter, Sylvia Kitchen (2000); brothers and sisters, Vernon Coleman, Dolly Gordon, Minnie Dotson and Jean Coleman.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. Pastor William Fulda will be officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
