NEW LEXINGTON — Shirley Wollenberg, 76, of New Lexington passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at Fairfield Medical Center in Lancaster from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
She was born Dec. 2, 1932, in Shawnee, the daughter of the late Walter D. “Dickie” and Nora M. Azbell Jones. She was a loving wife and mother, she was a member of St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in New Lexington, where she volunteered, St. Rose Bereavement Committee, Perry County Baseball Hall of Fame and board of elections. She was the Democratic Central Committee person, longtime employee of the Panther Drive In, and worked at St. Aloysius High School, New Lexington Elks.
She is survived by her loving husband, William “Bill” Wollenberg; children, Phillip (Bobbi) Wollenberg of New Lexington, Phyllis (Henry) Howdyshell of New Lexington, Paula (Tim O’Hare) Weinfurtner of Athens, Pamela (Michael) Fuller of Mount Vernon, Penny (David) Murray of New Lexington, Patrick (Missy Bateson) Wollenberg of New Lexington, Patricia (Andrew) Morrison of Centerville, Peggy (Scott) Harris of New Lexington and Paul Wollenberg of New Lexington; 22 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; aunt, Dorothy Leaman; sister-in-law, Lucille Jones; and many loving friends.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her brothers, Richard “Dickie” Jones and Duane Jones; and granddaughter, Ashton Elaine Cannon.
Friends may call today from 2 to 8 p.m. at the J.E. Humphrey Funeral Home, 118 W. Walnut St., Shawnee, where vigil service with rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church in New Lexington with the Rev. James Csaszar as celebrant.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Rose Bereavement Committee or the Central Ohio Parkinson Society.
