MOUNT VERNON — Erik Karl Janus, 21, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Jan. 19, 2009, at the Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus.
He was born July 24, 1987, in San Antonio, Texas, to Glen Janus and Marianne (Heck) Janus. He attended Gahanna Lincoln High School and the Career Center at Eastland. Erik was a compassionate young man who always showed kindness and caring toward others. Erik loved the outdoors and especially fishing and camping. He spent much of his short life in Ohio’s woods and lakes where he was happiest. Erik is in heaven now and no doubt telling tall fishing tales to God and the angels. Erik is in a better place and Heaven is a better place with Erik’s company. We love Erik so much and miss him more than can be described.
Besides his parents, Erik is survived by two sisters, Abigal and Molly Janus; maternal grandmother, Marilyn Heck; paternal grandmother, Denelda Janus; uncles, Karl Heck, Fred Heck, William (Shellise) Janus, Robert (Anna) Janus, Donald (Katie) Janus and Keith (Trish) Janus; an aunt, Lisa (Andy) Peterson; and a cousin, Corbin Heck.
Erik was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Max Heck and William Janus.
Friends may call Friday, Jan. 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A service will be held Saturday, at the funeral home, beginning at 1 p.m. Burial will follow in Valley View Cemetery in Warsaw.
In Erik’s honor, the family would like memorial contributions to be made to Melita Christian Fellowship, c/o Melvin Yoder, 6836 Millerburg Road, Gambier, OH 43022; or the Boy Scouts of America.
