MOUNT VERNON — Darrell E. Jordan, 70, of Mount Vernon passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, Jan. 29, 2009, at his home.
He was born in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Feb. 24, 1938, son of the late Paul and Mildred (Stewart) Jordan. Darrell served in the U.S. Navy from 1956 to 1966 in the Submarine Service aboard the USS Torsk and USSBN Simon Bolivar. His career included being part of the design team of the Telemetry Systems for Surface to Air Missiles and later was part of the groundbreaking technology for the CT and MRI Scanners. Darrell retired from the State of Ohio with 13 years of service. He was a licensed Ham Radio Operator; he loved to listen to Jazz and Big Band era music, and studied the history of music. Darrell enjoyed playing the guitar, sailing, golfing and gardening.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Ann (Elsey) Jordan, whom he married Sept. 2, 1956; sons, Jeff Jordan and his wife, Mary, of Green Oaks, Ill., and Scott Jordan and his wife, Rebecca, of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Julie Jordan and her husband, Brian Hoops of Baileyville, Maine; grandchildren, Christopher, Travis and McKenzie Jordan, Sally, Bonnie and Jake Hoops, and Alex and Elise Jordan; and a brother, Don Jordan of Cincinnati.
A committal service will be Tuesday, Feb. 3, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of the Eastlawn Memorial Park in Marietta, with the Rev. Nancy O’Dell officiating. The American Legion and the VFW of Marietta will provide military services.
