FREDERICKTOWN — L. Martine Swank, 91, of Fredericktown died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home in Mount Vernon.
Martine was born June 15, 1917, in Mount Vernon, to William and Bessie (Newton) Bartlett, and had spent her lifetime in Knox County. She had been employed at Foote Foundry in Fredericktown and had served as a volunteer at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. Martine had attended the Waterford United Methodist Church, was a member of the Fredericktown Garden Club and Ann Hill Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, in Fredericktown.
Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law, William R. and Joanie Swank of Glendale, Ariz.; her daughter, Barbara Swank of Scottsdale, Ariz.; stepgrandchildren, John Cornell and Nick Cornell; and great-grandchildren, Paige Cornell, Brett Cornell, Ashly Cornell and Anna Cornell; her sisters, Anna Jackson of Mount Vernon and Nina Carpenter of Phoenix, Ariz.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Martine was preceded in death by her husband, William Merwin Swank; and two brothers, William Bartlett and Wilbur Bartlett.
Friends may call Thursday, Feb. 5, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown. The Ann Hill Chapter, Order of Eastern Star, will hold a memorial service Thursday at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will follow the Eastern Star memorial service with Mr. Donald Linn officiating. Private burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens on Friday.
