MOUNT VERNON — Jerry J. Kleinman, 59, of West Chestnut Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 5, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Jan. 31, 1950, in Mount Vernon, a son of the late Louis C. and Helen (McCann) Kleinman. Jerry was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon and a 1968 graduate of St. Vincent High School. He retired from the former Chattanooga Glass Co. in Mount Vernon. Jerry volunteered for many years with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and in 1983 was honored with the Big Brother of the Year Award.
Jerry is survived by his sisters, Mary Ann Kleinman and Martha L. (Keith) Magee, both of Mount Vernon; niece, Helsa (Jason) King of Howard; nephew, Luke (Jaime) Magee of Cincinnati; several great-nieces and nephews; several aunts and many cousins.
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Kleinman.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, April 8, at 11 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. Inurnment will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery in Mount Vernon. Friends may call one hour prior to the Mass at the church.
