Elizabeth C. Smith

OAK CREEK, Wis. — Elizabeth C. Smith, 99, passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Schmidt Home, Oak Creek, Wis.

Elizabeth was born in Danville, Ohio, on Feb. 24, 1910, daughter of the late James V. and Mary E. (Riley) Cochran. Elizabeth was a school teacher for 30 years teaching in Ohio, Iowa and Florida. She traveled extensively after retirement touring the United States, Baghdad and also taught in Brazil. Elizabeth enjoyed writing and painting and authored, “My First 80 Years.” She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her daughters, Marion (Don) Estes of Bettendorf, Iowa, and Charlotte (Thomas) Wells of Racine; her grandchildren, James (Melissa) Estes, Tim (Dayna) Estes, Jennifer Estes and Ben Estes; her great-grandchildren, Bryanne, Jane and Grace, Conor and Hannah; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her four sisters, Neva C. Berger, Lula R. Cochran, Elsa Dennis and Frances Thamir.

Private graveside services will be held at Cedar Hill Cemetery, Brownsville, Ohio. The Maresh-Meredith & Acklam Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
