Terrence L. Meyer

April 20, 2009

MOUNT VERNON — Terrence Lee Meyer was born April 2, 1943, in Dayton and passed away at his home in Mount Vernon on April 17, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer.

Terry lived a full life and impacted the lives of many people with his warmth, kindness and ability to make anyone feel like part of the family. After graduating from Colonel White High School, Terry went on to play football at The Ohio State University and graduated in 1966. He then worked for Shell Oil Co. in Detroit, Mich., and eventually owned and operated his own Shell Service Station in Dayton, while running his first farm in Piqua. With his sense of adventure, he sold everything and moved his family to Fort Myers, Fla., where he sailed the Gulf Coast for a year and a half before becoming a successful commercial fisherman for 11 years. He returned to Ohio to spend the rest of his life on his farm in Mount Vernon, where he passed away surrounded by family. Terry will always be remembered for his love of life, learning, literature, the outdoors and family.

Terry is survived by his wife, Barbara; his daughter, Madeline and her husband, Greg Miller of Dayton; his son, Joshua and his wife, Kameron Meyer; and his three grandchildren, Jacob, Sarah, and Jack Meyer of San Antonio, Texas. Other family members include his brother, Tom Meyer of Knoxville, Tenn.; his brother and sister-in-law, Randy and Nancy Jones and their children; his aunts, Joanne Calderone and Helen Kreuzer; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Terry was a father figure to many and leaves behind many “adopted” family members who will also miss him.

Terry was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Maxine Meyer; and his mother-in-law, Charlotte “Squeeze” Banta.

“Come unto Me, all of you who are weary and heavy laden and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn of me ... and you will have rest for your souls.” (Matthew 11:28-30) Rest in peace, Big T.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, April 25, at 2 p.m. at the Krietzer Funeral Home, 204 N. Main St., Arcanum, Ohio.
