Gordon D. Hall

MOUNT VERNON — Rev. Gordon D. Hall, 83, of Mount Vernon passed away Monday morning, April 20, 2009, at his home.

He was born Aug. 15, 1925, in Warnock, Ohio, a son of the late Harold H. and Sara (Lytle) Hall. Rev. Hall was a 1954 graduate of the Eastern Nazarene College in Wollaston, Mass., and was the Pastor of Churches in New York, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Ohio for 49 years. He was a member of the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene in Mount Vernon. Rev. Hall was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the North Pacific.

Rev. Hall is survived by his devoted wife, Elva (Burdette) Hall, whom he married on June 6, 1953; his caring children, Rev. Larry (Carol) Hall of Mount Vernon, Rev. Don (Patty) Hall of Richmond, Calif., Judy (Rev. Jack) Davis of Jefferson and Patty (Tim) Fagan of New Philadelphia; 12 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; a brother, James (Sandy) Hall of Logan; a sister, Rebecca Cleland of Freeport; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Rev. Hall was preceded in death by a daughter, Beverly Jean Williamson; two brothers, Harold Hall and Wayne Hall; and two sisters, Barbara J. Miller and Nancy J. Freeman.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 23, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, and on Friday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene, 16001 Glen Road, Mount Vernon, with the Revs. Don Hall, Larry Hall and Jack Davis officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens with military services provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Lakeholm Church of the Nazarene in Rev. Gordon D. Hall’s memory.
