ASHLAND — Gloria P. Burns, 77, of Ashland passed away Thursday, April 23, 2009, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.
On Feb. 8, 1932, in Mansfield, Mrs. Burns was born to the late Ollie and Geraldine (Adam) Braden. She had been a resident of Ashland County most of her life where she had been a homemaker and worked 20-plus years in customer service for United Telephone Co. Mrs. Burns was a member of First Christian Church in Ashland and was an elder, deaconess, and member of the Halcyon Club. She enjoyed her several bridge clubs and flower gardening.
On April 8, 1955, Mrs. Burns married Stanley Burns who survives. Also surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law, Cinda and Bob Price of Battle Creek, Mich., Stana and Nelson Shogren of Mansfield; one son and daughter-in-law, Todd and Heidi Burns of Fredericktown; 11 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Larry Carstenson of Catawba Island, Ohio; and one brother and companion, Bruce Braden and Margaret Dalton of Loudonville,. Mrs. Burns was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Mark in 1999; a sister, Beverly Geib; and a brother, Richard Braden.
A memorial service will be Monday, April 27, at 7 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 405 Cottage St., Ashland, with Pastors John O’Hara and Eric Bargerhuff officiating. Interment will be in Ashland County Memorial Park. Friends may visit with the family two hours prior to the service (5 to 7 p.m.) at the church. The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the First Christian Church-Shoe Fund for needy kids in Ashland County, 405 Cottage St., Ashland, OH 44805.
