MOUNT VERNON — Neil R. Burson, 79, of McGibney Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, at his home in Mount Vernon.
He was born Sept. 10, 1929, in Fredericktown on the family farm to the late Edward and J. Grace (Ruhl) Burson. Neil retired in 1991 after 25 years of employment with General Motors in Mansfield, and recently retired as a courier from First-Knox National Bank in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed simple things, such as woodworking or coin and arrowhead collecting. Neil was an outdoorsman and loved hunting and fishing. He was a member of the Waterford Church of Christ.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Phyllis (Clark) Burson; three sons, Gary (Linda) Burson of Butler, Wayne (Van) Burson of Centerburg and Donald Burson of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Jeannine (Ronald) Ogle of Mount Gilead; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Wanza (Paul) Smith of Mount Vernon, Lois (Charles) Welch of Fredericktown and Marjorie Frey of Bellevue, Wash.
He was preceded in death by two granddaughters, Jenny Burson and Courtney Burson; and three brothers, Paul Burson, Vaughn Burson and Frank Burson.
The family will hold a memorial service at the family farm at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of Neil R. Burson.
