BELLVILLE — Velma Elizabeth Corba, 89, of Toms Road, Bellville, passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born May 29, 1919, in Mount Vernon to the late Charles and Bessie (Dailey) Brubaker. Velma worked as secretary and office manager of Kelser Dowds Wholesale Grocery for over 30 years. She also worked at Patrons Mutual Insurance in Bellville and Kit Manufacturing in Mount Vernon. Velma won the state competition in typing while attending Bliss Business College in Mount Vernon. She was a lifetime member of the Owl Creek Church of Brethren in Ankenytown.
She is survived by two sons, John (Bonnie) Corba of Fredericktown and James (Barbara) Corba of Bellville; a daughter, Janice (Jon) Ketter of Bellville; eight grandchildren, Amy (Donald) Kennedy, Beth (Timothy) Grogg, John (James Abel) Corba, Dr. Timothy (Adina) Corba, Tina (Phil) Kraus, Tiffany (Ken) Zellmer, Joseph (Jodi) Ketter and Jay (Kellie) Ketter; 13 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Harold “Bus” Brubaker of Mount Vernon.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, John Corba (1996); three brothers, Everett Brubaker, Earl Brubaker and Lester Brubaker; and a sister, Vera Busenburg.
Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown. A funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Owl Creek Church of the Brethren in Ankenytown, where friends may call one hour prior. The Rev. Dr. James Lifer will officiate. Burial will follow in Ankenytown Owl Creek Cemetery.
