Roberta Brown George

MOUNT VERNON — Roberta M. Brown George, 87, of Stevens Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, April 27, 2009, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 3, 1921, in Cincinnati to the late Robert and Edith (Bird) Flora. Roberta was a member of the Gay Street United Methodist Church, UMW & Varsity Class, Ohio Nurses Association, Order of the Eastern Star, Amelis Chapter 338, Town and Country Garden Club, Mount Vernon, Apple Core in Apple Valley, served as an Army nurse in World War II, and was a former board member of the Hannah Browning Home.

Roberta was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Lt. Col. Guy W. Brown.

She is survived by her sons, Stanley (Joyce) Brown and Chaplain Col. Gary (Mary) Brown; granddaughter, Stephanie Brown; great-granddaughter, Jordan Ruth; husband, Harold George; and stepchildren and grandchildren of the George, Walton and Williams families.

Friends may call Thursday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A service will be held Friday, at the funeral home, beginning at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Dr. David Baker officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Memorial contributions can be made to Gay Street United Methodist Church or the Mount Vernon Public Library.
