Irma M. Sprang

PERRYSVILLE — Irma M. Sprang, 83, State Route 39, Perrysville, died Monday evening, April 27, 2009, surrounded by family in Colonial Manor Health Care Center, Loudonville, after a two-month illness.

Irma was born May 28, 1925, on the Green Township farm that would be her home for her entire life. She was the youngest daughter of the late Clarance W. and Freda B. (Lemon) Kettenring. She was a 1943 graduate of Loudonville High School. After graduation, she worked at The Ohio Brass Co., Mansfield. On March 25, 1944, Irma married Norman L. Sprang and together they owned and operated River Valley Farms. Their dairy and grain farm became an 1869 Century Farm during their ownership. Norman and Irma enjoyed traveling, when possible, to other agricultural areas worldwide. Irma was a lifelong member of Trinity Community Church, Loudonville, where she sang in the Senior Choir, directed Junior Choir, and served in many other ways over the years. She was also a member of the Music Club, Ashland County Farm Bureau, Farm Club, and served in other county agricultural organizations.

Her family included four daughters and their husbands, Carol E. and Gary Young of Loudonville, Joyce M. and Robert Blanchard of Wooster, Marjorie and her late husband Tony Drouhard of Loudonville, and Norma and Art Butts of Loudonville; 12 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman L., on March 14, 2005; a grandson, Alex M. Butts; and two sisters, Constance K. Casner and Mary Wolf.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, May 2, at 1 p.m. in Trinity Community Church, Loudonville, with Pastor John Temple officiating. Private burial will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, Perrysville. Friends may call Friday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville.
