Marvin L. Burt

MOUNT VERNON — Marvin L. Burt, 76, of Mount Vernon went to be with his Lord on Sunday, May 3, 2009, at the Country Court Nursing Center following an extended illness.

Marvin was born Dec. 23, 1932, in Neenah, Wis., to Jess I. Burt and Clarine M. (Joos) Burt Crown and moved with his family to Mount Vernon in 1935. He graduated from Fredericktown High School in 1950 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in 1952. He was a graduate of the U.S. Air Force University and Air Force Senior NCO Academy. Marvin served in four major Air Commands. He served in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War, and received many medals and citations including the Meritorious Service Medal from the President of the United States. He retired in 1979 as Chief Master Sergeant.

Marvin was a born again Christian and had been a faithful member of the Baptist Church.

Surviving are his wife, Marilyn L. (Frazier) Burt, whom he married July 28, 1951; his children, Matthew L. (Regine) Burt of Springfield, Mass., Michael L. (Jeanie) Burt of Reynoldsburg, Marissa L. (Robert) Daley of Mount Vernon and Michelle L. Updegraff of Mount Vernon; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.

Marvin was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David L. Burt; and his stepfather, the Rev. Fred Crown.

A private graveside service, with military honors by the U.S. Air Force, will be held in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
