MOUNT VERNON — Mary G. Arnold, 87, of Marita Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away Thursday, May 7, 2009, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home.
She was born Nov. 9, 1921, in Clarksburg, W.Va., to the late John and Gertrude (Higgs) Barrett. Mary G. was a graduate of the St. Mary’s of the Springs, which is now known as Ohio Dominican University, where she received her degree in teaching. She taught in Steubenville and Howard High School, and substituted at St. Vincent de Paul School. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, where she volunteered for church and school functions.
Mary G. is survived by her husband, Arthur Arnold; children, Peggy Hanna of Belleville, Mich., Carol (Tom) Mark of Miami, Fla., Pat (Ben) Durbin of Danville, Bob (Linda) Arnold of Germany, Paul (Karen) Arnold of Mount Vernon, David (Alice) Arnold of Lakeland, Fla., Richard (Bridget) Arnold of Providence, R.I., Beth Arnold of Greenville; 19 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
Besides her parents, Mary G. was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Jacquelyn Suzanne Durbin.
Friends may call Sunday, May 10, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, with a prayer service following. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, beginning at 1 p.m. at the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Rev. F. Richard Snoke as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mount Calvary Cemetery.
