MOUNT VERNON — William F. “Bill” Lahmon, 88, of Mount Vernon passed away Thursday afternoon, May 14, 2009, at his home surrounded by his caring family.
He was born Sept. 9, 1920, in Knox County, a son of the late William G. and Sarah Jane (McGinnis) Lahmon. Bill retired from the former Continental Can Co. in Mount Vernon with 29 years of faithful service. He was a volunteer for the College Township Fire Department in Gambier for many years and was a charter member of the Gambier Fish and Game Club. Bill, along with his late wife, Dorathy, ran the card parties at The Station Break in Mount Vernon for many years.
Bill is survived by grandchildren, Michael (Melody) Lahmon of Mount Vernon, Matthew (Heather) Hall of Delaware, Brittany (Steve) Ward of Zanesville and Jennifer Lahmon of Delaware; great-grandchildren, Heather (Roger) Stevens, Jacob and Corbin Ward and Lilah Hall; great-great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Logan and Seth Stevens; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Ann Lahmon of Delaware; and sisters, Frances Sapp and Dorothy White, both of Mount Vernon.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his wife, Dorathy L. (Conkle) Lahmon; a son, James W. Lahmon; brothers, Earl, Harry and Ralph “Shorty” Lahmon; and sisters, Edna Woolison, Pearl Mills and Isabelle Hyatt.
The family will receive friends Monday, May 18, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. A graveside service will be held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Oak Grove Cemetery, Gambier.
