MOUNT VERNON — Joel Jacob Gamble, 35, of Mount Vernon died May 18, 2009, at his residence surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 19, 1974, in Mount Vernon. Joel was a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon. He graduated in 1993 from Mount Vernon High School and the Knox County Career Center. He was a 13-year employee for First-Knox National Bank and a member of the Mount Vernon Numismatic Society. Joel loved his music and usually could be caught singing his favorite songs.

He is survived by his mother, Kathy Gamble of Mount Vernon; father and stepmother, Charles and Cheryl Gamble of Mount Vernon; brother, Mark (Mara) Gamble of Centerburg; nephews, Adam and Braden Gamble; aunts, Linda (Jerry) Grosswiler, Kathy (Doug) Morrison and Nancy (Jamey) Popham; uncle, Steve (Michelle) Gamble; great-aunts, Dorothy Rex and Marcene Huggins; along with many cousins and close friends. Also survived by his loving dachshund, Hailey.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Howard and Olive Huggins and Arthur and Doris Gamble.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where a memorial service will follow calling hours at 7 p.m. with Bishop Troy Cooper officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Joel’s name to Nationwide Children’s Hospital or Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital.
