Maxine Hunter

MOUNT VERNON — Maxine Hunter, 91, of Mount Vernon died Tuesday, May 19, 2009, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

Maxine was born July 18, 1917, in Knox County to Elmo J. and Cleo (McDevit) Hunter and had spent her lifetime in Knox County. She had been employed for 43 years at Shellmar, Continental Can Co., and finally American National Can Co. in Mount Vernon and also loved to raise Suffix Sheep, many of which became her pets.

Maxine was a lifetime member of the Brandon United Methodist Church, where she played the organ for many years and was a member of Knox Chapter, Order of Eastern Star in Mount Vernon.

Surviving are her nieces, Janelle (Timothy) Cothren of Fredericktown and Jo Ann (Kenneth) Miller of Howard; nephews, Brad (Joellen) Hunter and Brian (Sadie) Hunter, both of Mount Vernon; and grandnieces and grandnephews, Ryan Biggs, Tonya Hunter, Scott Cothren, Kelly Cothren and Carey Cothren.

Besides her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her sister, Avanell Heaton; and her brother, Joseph L. Hunter.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 20, at 11 a.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, where friends may call one hour before the funeral. Burial will follow at Brandon Cemetery.
