MOUNT VERNON — Rene M. Mondron, 82, of Crestview Drive, Mount Vernon, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Friday, May 22, 2009.

He was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Big Prairie, Ohio, to the late Leon and Zella (Hunter) Mondron. Rene retired in 1977 from Pittsburgh Plate Glass Industries in Mount Vernon. He enjoyed playing the saxophone and created his own band that played dance music for various establishments in Knox County.

He is survived by three sons, Jeff (Paula Fry) Mondron of Mount Vernon, Kevin Mondron of Marietta, Ga., Richard Mondron of Sarasota, Fla,; longtime companion of 29 years, Toni Shannon; and brother-in-law, Charles Spielberger.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two sisters, Joyce Spielberger and Judith Ellis.

Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, Ohio 43050 where a funeral service will be Friday at 11 a.m.. Entombment will follow in Mound View Cemetery in Mount Vernon.
