MOUNT VERNON — Esther P. Faust, 88, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Fredericktown, died Sunday, May 24, 2009, at the Summerville at HillenVale in Mount Vernon.
Esther was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Mount Vernon to Harry and Opal (Everhart) Cookman and had spent her lifetime in Knox County. Esther attended the Fredericktown United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and had been a member of the Doubleday Book Club for many years. In her later years Esther enjoyed quilting.
Surviving are her daughters, Rosemary Smith of Fredericktown and Connie (Donald) Kerr of Utica; her sons, Jerry Faust of Fredericktown and Carl “Ed” (Ruth) Faust of Perrysville; 13 grandchildren, Cheryl (Heath) Lafaber, Jeff (Judy) Faust, Jody (Greg) Ebersole, Brian (Beth) Faust, Karen (Gary) Brown, Mike (Lisa) Smith, Michelle (Barry) Fluty, Melinda Smith, Mark (Courtney) Smith, Melissa (Kim) Hathaway, M. Joel (Susan) Smith, Duncan (Stephanie) Kerr and Bradley Kerr; 27 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Maxine Tier of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Faust; son-in-law, Larry Smith; daughter-in-law, Nancy Faust; grandson, Shawn Kerr; and brothers and sisters, Violet Miller, Harold (Coopie) Cookman, Raymond Lee Cookman and Carmen Berger.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where funeral services will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Bohley officiating. Entombment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
