MOUNT VERNON — Margaret “Peggy” Murphy, 65, died Friday, May 22, 2009, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.
She was born Aug. 8, 1943, in Danville. Her parents were the late Dwight “Ted” and Mary Banbury. She was a 1961 graduate of Danville High School. Peggy loved NASCAR and dirt car racing, and was a big Dale Jr. fan. She also loved working her puzzles, bingo and baking, but most of all, spending time with her children and grandchildren, and Michael Bolton.
She is survived by her sons, Fred Michael Murphy Sr. (Amy) of Newark, Pat Murphy of Mount Vernon, and Glenn Roger Murphy Jr. (Patricia) of Newark; 13 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Wanda Daugherty of Newark and Mary Ekers of Mount Vernon; and a brother, Richard Welker of Jacksonville, Fla.
Calling hours are today, May 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. A funeral service will follow, with Pastor Steve Feazel officiating. Burial will take place Monday, June 1, at 10 a.m. in Workman Cemetery at Danville.
