MOUNT VERNON — Noreen D. Johnson, 96, of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, June 7, 2009, at the Ohio Eastern Star Home among family and caring staff.
She was born Oct. 1, 1912, in Bay City, Mich., to the late Zephyr and Ellen Jane (Brisbois) Daoust. Noreen was a 1931 graduate of St. James High School in Bay City and a 1932 graduate of Bay County Normal School. She was a member of St. John Altar Society in Essexville, Mich., and a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.
Surviving are her children, Suzanne (Noel) Parrish of Mount Vernon, Mary (Arthur) Periard of Cape Canaveral, Fla., and Karl (Patricia) Johnson of Potomac, Md.; six grandchildren, Kristina (Jeff) Wilson, Michael (Kelli) Periard, Lisa Whall, James (Stacy Hutton) Johnson, William Johnson and Kevin Johnson; and six great-grandchildren, Cole Parrish and Nicholas Wilson, Chloe and Danielle Mary Periard, Dagny Whall and Cairn Johnson.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence J. (Buss) Johnson; her sister, Mary Essex; and four brothers, Joseph, Paul, James and John Daoust.
From her French/Irish heritage Noreen’s sense of style, intelligence, strength and love along with her deep faith made many friends. She was an avid golfer and reader; she enjoyed traveling and dancing.
Friends may call Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, 619 E. High St., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Mount Vernon on Thursday at 10 a.m. with the Rev. Father Mark J. Hammond as celebrant. Noreen will be interred beside her beloved husband, Buss, in Bay City, Mich., at St. Patrick’s Cemetery later in the summer with a celebration of her life with family.
