CONNERSVILLE, Ind. — David Lee Miller, formerly of Mount Vernon, died Monday, May 25, 2009, at Lincoln Center East in Connersville, Ind., surrounded by his family.
David was born Nov. 12, 1943, to Harold W. and Violet Marie (Cookman) Miller. After attending Mount Vernon High School he joined the Navy in 1960 and served aboard the USS Boxer until 1964. He was employed at Chattanooga Glass Co. for 16 years before moving to Liberty, Ind. He worked at the Liberty Mill and the Liberty Restaurant as cook and was employed 13 years at J&J Packaging. He was married on Feb. 12, 1993, to the former Donna Jean Gillinger.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Samuel D. (Carol) Miller of Mount Vernon and Matthew R. (Jennifer) Miller of Cuyahoga Falls; two grandsons, Ryan and Kyle Miller of Cuyahoga Falls; a granddaughter, Erica Miller of Mount Vernon; three stepdaughters, Darlene Shepard of Nashville, Tenn., Chasity Plemons of Liberty, Ind., and Lisa Farley of Hamilton, Ohio; five stepgrandchildren; one stepgreat-granddaughter; a brother, James N. Miller of Richmond, Ind.; a sister, Saundra (Sam) McQueen of Mount Vernon; and a niece, Julie (Keith) Chapman of Mount Vernon.
Preceding David in death were his parents; a brother, Harold (Sonny) W. Miller Jr.; grandparents; and two nephews.
Graveside funeral services will be Monday, June 15, at 1 p.m. in Mound View Cemetery, Mount Vernon, with Pastor Roger Tickle of Grace Community Church officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow.
