Opal K. Wise

GYPSUM, Colo. — Opal Kathryn Wise, 97, of Gypsum, Colo., formerly of Loudonville, died Wednesday, June 10, 2009, in Vail, Colo., after a brief illness.

Mrs. Wise was born Nov. 3, 1911, in Richland County, the daughter of the late Clarence Edwin and Luta J. (Freehafer) Derrow. She and her husband, Carl M. Wise, whom she married Feb. 24, 1934, lived on their small farm south of Loudonville, until she moved in 2000, to Worthington for four years. She moved to Gypsum, Colo., in 2004. On April 9, 2000, Mr. Wise died. Mrs. Wise was a homemaker and member of Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville, the Women of Zion, and the Sewing and Quilting Circle. She loved cooking and reading.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, with whom she made her home, Teresa and Michael Francisco of Gypsum, Colo.; her two grandchildren, Matthew Francisco and Amanda Francisco, both of Gypsum, Colo.; and two sisters, Ethel Doup of rural Perrysville and Nina Frye of Mount Vernon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl M. Wise; her parents; four brothers, Herschel, Donald, Donavan and Robert Derrow; and three sisters, Muriel DeLong, Dorothy Wise and Evelyn Derrow.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 17, at noon in Byerly-Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville, with the Rev. Scott Henderson officiating. Interment will be in Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call Tuesday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
