Garnet V. Dewey

MOUNT VERNON — Mrs. Garnet Virginia Dewey (Coykendall), 96, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Mount Gilead, passed away June 18, 2009.

She was born April 13, 1913, in Kenova, W.Va., to Luther and Louise (Ferguson) Davis. In 1935, she married Harold C. Dewey and in 1957 she married Elmer Coykendall. They are both deceased.

She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Columbus, with a Registered Nurse degree. A career of over 50 years followed until her retirement. She worked the last 15 years of her nursing career at the Morrow County Hospital in Mount Gilead. She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church.

She is survived by three children, William (Diane) Dewey of Olympia, Wash., Virginia (Wayne) Potes of Mount Vernon and Dorothy (Robert) Ramsier of Mount Gilead; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and two husbands, she was preceded in death by four brothers, George, Kenneth, Gorman and Ted Davis; and three sisters, Margie Willis, Opal Tweed and Dorothy Clark.

Friends may call on the family on Monday, June 22, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Homes, Craven Chapel, 67 N. Main St., Mount Gilead. A private graveside service will be held in Woodlawn Cemetery in Lodi at a later date.
