Annabelle Smith

MOUNT VERNON — Annabelle I. “Annie” Smith, 80, a lifelong resident of Mount Vernon, died Friday, June 19, 2009, in the ICU Unit at Knox Community Hospital surrounded by her family.

She was born on Oct. 25, 1928, in Mount Vernon and was the daughter to the late Floyd V. and Martha E. (Totman) Thomas. Annie was a devoted wife, mother, sister and grandmother to her family. She was a member of the Ladies of the Moose and the AMVETS Auxiliary Post 95.

She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Charles C. Smith; daughter, Diana (Gary) Perkins of Mount Vernon; sons, Charles (Charlotte) Smith of Fredericktown and James Smith of Mount Vernon; sisters, Dorothy (Encil) Doup of Fredericktown, Arlene Cooper of Mount Vernon, Marilyn Bagent of Mount Vernon and Joann Smail of Bellville; seven grandchildren, Kevin Smith, Adam and Allan Simones, Alicia VanMeter, Stephanie Roche, Charles Smith III and Brittany Smith; and eight great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her three brothers, Floyd Jr., Roy E. and Ronald E. Thomas; and grandparents, Rev. Edward and Alice Totman.

The family will receive friends today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, where the funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. with Major Robert Bender officiating. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
