MOUNT VERNON — Juanita King Riley, 95, of Mount Vernon was called to her heavenly home on June 23, 2009, surrounded by her children. She was a resident of the Country Club Retirement Campus in Mount Vernon.
She was born Jan. 11, 1914, in Dresden to the late Harry W. and Clara V. (Lacy) King. During her lifetime, Juanita was a homemaker, a JCPenney and YMCA Cafeteria employee in Zanesville and the manager of the YMCA and the Valley View Restaurants in Newark. She was a past president of the Academia Garden Club.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Paul and Sue Riley of Fredericktown; daughter and son-in-law, Marianne and Bob Walters of Abbeville, S.C.; four grandchildren, Scott Walters and wife, Julie of Pataskala, Drew Riley of Mount Vernon, Joel Riley and his wife, Laura of St. Louisville and Brian Walters and his wife, Mary Jo of Utica; six great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Juanita was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Bern Riley; stepfather, Harry L. Steele; three sisters, Vesta M. King, Isabelle Parker and Betty Younkins.
A memorial service for Juanita will be held on Monday, June 29, at 7 p.m. at Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service. Inurnment of both Juanita and Bern Riley will be in Dresden Cemetery at a later date.
