MOUNT VERNON — Lucille D. Sparks, 87, of Newark Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
She was born Jan. 21, 1922, in Anoka, Minn., a daughter of the late Wilbur and Emma (Okerlund) Stocker. Lucille was the bookkeeper for the former E.A. Sparks Home Supply in Mount Vernon and local dentists, Dr. Minich and Dr. Mack. She a member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Mount Vernon, the Knox Chapter 236 of the Order of Eastern Star, and a 60-year member of Beta Sigma Phi. Lucille was also a member of the Church Women United and the Poetry Club in Mount Vernon. She had a lifelong love for reading, gardening and crossword puzzles.
Lucille is survived by her son, Kevin (Alison) Sparks of North Andover, Mass.; her daughter, Stephanie (John) Crouch of Utica; and grandchildren, Carrie Crouch, and Lena, Ian and Olivia Sparks.
In addition to her parents, Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest Sparks; brothers, Arnold and Earl Stocker; and sisters, Pauline Bundy and Mayfair Murphy.
Friends will be received Friday, June 26, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, with Beta Sigma Phi and Eastern Star service to follow the visitation. A funeral service will be held Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m. at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, 200 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, with the Rev. Dr. R. Keith Stuart officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
