MOUNT VERNON — Neil C. Stockwell, 70, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Westerville, passed away at home Friday, June 26, 2009, surrounded by family and close friends after a short battle with cancer.
He was born Aug. 5, 1938, in Sunbury. He was a graduate of Westerville High School, attended Otterbein College and graduated from the National School of Heavy Equipment Operations Inc. He served in the Ohio National Guard, 37th Division, and retired from AEP after 41 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Carol Jean; daughters, Jennifer (Scott) Long and Angela (Charles) Ferrell, all of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Zac Long, Nicholas Burson, Trenton Long and Kayla Ferrell; sister, Sandra Stockwell of Columbus; aunts and uncles, Marjorie Cook, Joyce Hunt, Jackie Stockwell, Bernie (Rachel) Stockwell, John (Marge) Stockwell and Pete Jennings; numerous cousins; and his best canine friend, Bucky.
He was preceded in death by grandparents, Forrest and Zoe Cook, the Rev. Reid and Mabel Stockwell; parents, Robert and Mildred Stockwell; and special family friend, Everett Resh.
Neil was a member of NRA, a gasoline station memorabilia collector, an avid history buff, enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with his “buddies.”
Friends may call Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Moreland Funeral Home, 55 E. Schrock Road, Westerville, where service will be Monday at 11 a.m. Pastor Dan Whisner will officiate. Private interment will be in Bird Cemetery.
