FREDERICKTOWN — Clarence A. Burch, 84, of Fredericktown died Thursday, July 2, 2009, at the Ohio Eastern Star Health Care Center in Mount Vernon.
Clarence was born May 17, 1925, in Coshocton County to Robert A. and Edna (Cullison) Burch and was a graduate of Howard High School. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
Clarence was a real estate broker and insurance agent in Knox County for many years and developed the Sandusky Street Apartments in Mount Vernon.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fredericktown, the Joe Cocanower Post of the American Legion in Fredericktown, the Fredericktown Lions Club, Wayne Grange, and the Antique Tractor Club of Knox County.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Cross) Burch, whom he married June 6, 1949; his daughter, Katrina Smith of Upper Arlington; his sons, John (Jill) Burch of North Liberty and Michael (Patricia) Burch of Fredericktown; five grandchildren, Shelly Wenger, Jennifer Novinsky, Bryan Burch, Corey Burch and Kyle Smith; five great-grandchildren; his brothers, Calvin (Clita) Burch of Newark, Darrell Burch of Orange, Calif. and James Burch of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and his sisters, Ara Flack of Howard and Elsie Spurgeon of Mount Vernon.
Besides his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his sister, Esther Rutledge.
Friends may call Monday, July 6, from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown, where funeral services will be Tuesday, July 7, at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial with military honors by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow at Forest Cemetery in Fredericktown.
