James Thomas

MOUNT VERNON — James Thomas, 84, of Cliff Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.

He was born Aug. 4, 1924, in Fries, W.Va., to the late Charles Thomas and Beauty (Vaughn) Hampton. James worked 30 years for Pittsburgh Plate Glass in Mount Vernon, before retiring after 15 years of employment with the Knox County Sheriff’s Office. James served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Mable (Lambillotte) Thomas; a daughter, Denise Freshly of Columbus; and a brother, John (Sondra) Hampton of Fredericktown.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Thomas and William Hampton.

The family will observe a private graveside service at a later date. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home of Mount Vernon is honored to serve the family of James Thomas.
