MOUNT VERNON — Joe H. Shaffer, 76, of Mount Vernon died July 7, 2009, at Whispering Hills Care Center.
He was born June 17, 1933, in Brookville, Pa., to the late Alton R. and Venice (Hopkins) Shaffer. Joe was a 42-year employee of Cooper Energy Services, retiring in 1993. He was a Korean War Army veteran, an avid hunter and fisherman and a member of the BPO Elks 140.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Donna Latchaw Shaffer; sons, Jeffrey Shaffer of Glen Rose, Texas, Mark (Kathie) Shaffer of Arlington, Texas, and Rick (Maura) Shaffer of Phoenix, Ariz.; and four grandchildren, Todd, Tracy, Ashley and Amanda Shaffer.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Dean Shaffer; and a twin sister, Joan Allison.
A memorial service for Joe will be held Monday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Dilley-Lasater Funeral Home, 212 N. Main St., Mount Vernon, with Chaplain Steve Feazel officiating.
