MOUNT VERNON — Marie Wolford (Marie Martin), was born Nov. 16, 1918, and left us, peacefully, at the age of 90 on July 8, 2009. Family surrounded her when the good Lord called her home.
Marie was a member, pianist, and treasurer of the Grace Brethren Church in Danville for many years. She married Earl Martin in 1942 and lived in Mount Vernon after a short stay in Cleveland. Together in Mount Vernon, she and Earl owned and operated The Nook restaurant on East Ohio Avenue, and the White Front Market, under the old Curtis Hotel on the Square. After Earl passed away in 1955, Marie married Roy Wolford of Danville. She then worked for several years at Spearman’s Restaurant in Millwood. After Roy passed away she moved from Danville to Apple Valley in 1992. Since March 2007 she had lived at the Ohio Eastern Star Health Care Center. She was also preceded in death by loving parents, George and Molly Ventling of Danville.
Surviving her are children, Jack Martin (Donna) of Apple Valley and Ken Wolford (Kathleen) of Florence, Ky.; three grandchildren, Marie Martin, Scott Martin and Nick Wolford; two step-grandchildren, Steve Norris (Ashley) and Jennifer Nash (Jim); and two stepgreat-grandchildren.
She will be deeply missed by special friends, Pastor Al and Zoann Hockley and members of the Danville Brethren Church, and her extended family at the Ohio Eastern Star Home. Marie will be remembered dearly by many friends and loved ones throughout Knox County.
There will be a celebration of life Saturday, July 11, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Danville. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. with Pastor Al Hockley officiating. Burial will follow in Workman Cemetery in Danville. Information is available at www.fischerfuneralhome.com.
