FREDERICKTOWN — Robert L. “Bob” Cockrell,
65, of Knox Lake Road, Fredericktown, died Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at Knox
Community Hospital.
He was born July 21, 1943, in Marion, a son of Betty (Knight) Cockrell of Butler
and the late Charles Cockrell. Bob owned several businesses in Fredericktown
over the years, the first was the former SOHIO Gas Station, second was the Tire
Shop, then an Excavating Company, and finally in 1986, he started Cockrell Trucking.
He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Mount Vernon and the Cushmen Club. Bob
enjoyed wintering in Florida and riding his Cushman motorcycle. In Bob’s
spare time, he could always be found tinkering with something or trying to invent
something new.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Theresa (Grogg) Cockrell, whom he married
June 24, 1962; sons, Robert (Julie) Cockrell and Michael (Theresa) Cockrell,
both of Fredericktown; his mother, Betty; seven grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren;
brothers, Charlie (Carole) Cockrell, Dave (Ruby) Cockrell and Dan (Connie) Cockrell,
all of Fredericktown, and Paul (Bobbi) Cockrell of Lakeland, Fla.; sisters, Betty
(Paul) Davis of Galion, Mary (Keith) Carr and Sue Antrican, both of Butler, and
Margaret (Lane) Graves of McArthur; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his father, Bob was preceded in death by a brother, John Cockrell.
The family will receive friends Saturday, July 18, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Snyder
Funeral Home, 33 E. College St., Fredericktown, where funeral service will be
held Sunday, July 19, at 2 p.m., with Pastor Kenneth Miller officiating.
